In Ontario, occupational exposure limit values (OELs) are updated by the Ministry of Labour (MOL) after consultation with academic science and industry. The process is based on a tripartite (government, labour, management) consultation on annual revised limits recommended by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH). Updated OELs are published on the MOL website without established frequency (typically 3-5 years). When published, the OELs become legally binding after a predefined implementation period and are enforced by MOL inspectors.
