EMC and functional safety

In accordance with the latest standards, Power Drive Systems (Safety Related) – PDS (SR), i.e. power drive systems with integrated safety functions – must exhibit higher immunity to electromagnetic phenomena (electromagnetic compatibility, EMC). The standards do not however provide information on how the higher immunity may be demonstrated. In order to resolve this deficit, the Institut für Arbeitsschutz der Deutschen Gesetzlichen Unfallversicherung (IFA, Institute for Occupational Safety and Health of the German Social Accident Insurance) presents a provision which is to be applied during the testing and certification of PDS (SR).
